Many customers ask why modern engines have such large scope for tuning, or why manufacturers offer several versions of what appears to be the same engine with different power outputs.
The answer is largely commercial. It is far more cost-effective for manufacturers to produce just two or three base engines and then create multiple power variants simply by changing the software, rather than designing and building completely different engines for each model or market.
These different power outputs are almost always achieved through software calibration, not mechanical changes. This is exactly what allows a high-quality tuning box to safely unlock more of the performance that the engine is already capable of delivering — at a fraction of the cost of a dealer upgrade.
In addition, modern engines are designed to work worldwide. They must cope with different fuel qualities, extreme temperatures, and strict emissions regulations in every market. As a result, manufacturers build in a generous safety margin.

All DTUK tuning boxes have been designed to be compact, neat and simple to install. Every system is supplied with a vehicle-specific OEM wiring loom and genuine connectors, so there is no cutting, splicing or modification required.
Most installations take around 10–15 minutes and can be completed by anyone with basic mechanical ability. Full colour step-by-step fitting instructions are included with every order, and our UK technical support team is available if you need any help.
