Renault 5 E-Tech Electric – A New Generation of Renault

The Renault 5 E-Tech is built on Renault’s AmpR Small electric vehicle platform and is available with different battery and powertrain configurations depending on specification.

Current UK models include a 120 hp version with a 40 kWh battery and a 150 hp version with a 52 kWh battery. Renault quotes WLTP driving ranges of up to approximately 192 miles for the 40 kWh urban-range battery and up to 250 miles for the 52 kWh comfort-range battery.

The Renault 5 also features an 11 kW AC onboard charger, with compatible versions offering DC rapid charging. Renault quotes approximately 30 minutes to charge the 52 kWh battery from 15% to 80% using a suitable DC fast charger.

With its compact dimensions, instant electric torque, distinctive styling and modern technology, the Renault 5 has quickly become one of the most interesting new electric cars available in the UK.

Renault 5 E-Tech PedalBox Pro

Because the Renault 5 is an electric vehicle, a conventional engine tuning box cannot be used to increase electric motor power in the same way as it can on a turbocharged petrol or diesel Renault.

PerfecTune – Automatic PedalBox Calibration

PedalBox EV also features PerfecTune, an automatic calibration function designed to optimise the system to the characteristics of the individual vehicle.

The calibration process allows PedalBox to learn the accelerator characteristics of the vehicle and optimise its response accordingly. This helps provide a more consistent and personalised result rather than relying on a single generic setting.

PedalBox EV also includes a memory function, allowing the system to retain the driver’s selected programme and individual settings after the vehicle is switched off.

PedalBox Pro – App & Wireless Control

PedalBox Pro provides convenient control of the system through both a smartphone app and wireless remote control.

This allows the driver to change driving programmes and fine-tune the accelerator response without having to access the module itself.

The app also provides access to additional functions, including software updates and individual adjustment of the available driving programmes.

PedalBox EV Limit Mode

Limit Mode allows the accelerator response and maximum power request to be restricted.

This can be useful in situations where a more controlled driving response is desirable, such as when lending the vehicle to another driver, using valet parking or simply wanting to limit the available accelerator response.

Limit Mode is an additional control feature and does not permanently alter the vehicle’s original software.

PedalBox EV Immobiliser

PedalBox Pro also incorporates an Immobiliser function that can provide an additional layer of vehicle security.

When activated, the system prevents normal accelerator operation until the authorised control method is used to deactivate the immobiliser.

This can provide an additional deterrent against unauthorised use of the vehicle, particularly for vehicles equipped with modern keyless entry systems.

The Immobiliser is an additional security feature and should not be regarded as a replacement for the vehicle’s original security systems.

Renault 5 E-Tech – Which Versions Can Use PedalBox Pro?

Renault 5 E-Tech – Can You Tune an Electric Car?

This is an important distinction for anyone searching for Renault 5 tuning.

A conventional petrol or diesel tuning box works by interacting with engine sensors and modifying the signals used by the vehicle’s engine management system. The Renault 5 E-Tech does not have a conventional combustion engine or turbocharger that can be tuned in this way.
