PedalBox EV – Designed Specifically for Electric Vehicles

Electric vehicles require a different approach to throttle response because there is no conventional combustion engine, fuel system or turbocharger to tune.

PedalBox EV has been specifically developed for electric vehicles to optimise the electronic accelerator-pedal characteristic and give the driver greater control over the vehicle’s response.

It provides both sportier acceleration response and efficiency-focused driving characteristics, allowing EV owners to tailor the vehicle more closely to their preferred driving style.

Five PedalBox EV Driving Programmes

PedalBox EV offers five selectable driving programmes, each designed for a different type of driving:

• Long Range – an efficiency-focused programme designed to smooth accelerator signal behaviour during acceleration and load changes
• Comfort – smoother and more relaxed accelerator response
• Dynamic – a more spontaneous response for everyday driving
• Performance – a sharper and sportier accelerator response
• Standard – returns to the vehicle’s original accelerator characteristic

Each programme can be fine-tuned through seven individual settings, allowing the driver to find the response that best suits their preferences.

PedalBox EV Long Range Mode

The Long Range programme is one of the key differences between PedalBox EV and a conventional throttle response controller.

It is designed to optimise the accelerator signal during acceleration and load-change situations, smoothing the way the signal is delivered rather than simply making the vehicle more responsive.

This is particularly relevant to electric vehicles because frequent acceleration and deceleration in environments such as stop-start city traffic and roads with changing speeds can involve repeated changes in power demand.

The Long Range programme is designed to manage those changes more smoothly while still allowing the driver to request full acceleration when required. A kick-down function allows the driver to leave the Long Range characteristic immediately when maximum acceleration is needed.

PedalBox EV PerfecTune – Automatic Calibration

PerfecTune allows PedalBox EV to be individually calibrated to the characteristics of the vehicle’s accelerator pedal.

The system learns the accelerator response during a simple calibration procedure and then optimises the available programmes to suit the individual vehicle.

This means PedalBox EV is not simply relying on one generic accelerator setting across every electric vehicle application.

PedalBox EV – App & Wireless Remote Control

The standard PedalBox EV provides both smartphone app control and a wireless remote control, allowing the driver to change programmes and adjust settings conveniently.

The system can also retain the driver’s selected settings, and the app can be used for software updates on compatible systems.

An alternative version, PedalBox EV Air, offers the same core technology with control exclusively through the smartphone app.

PedalBox EV Limit Mode & Immobiliser

PedalBox EV also includes the additional functions found on PedalBox Pro:

• Limit Mode – allows the accelerator response to be restricted, which can be useful when the vehicle is being driven by another person, during valet parking, or whenever a more controlled response is desirable
• Immobiliser – provides an additional layer of security by preventing normal accelerator operation until the authorised control method (remote or paired smartphone) is recognised

These functions are additional security and control features and should not be considered a replacement for the vehicle’s original security systems.

How Does PedalBox EV Work?

Most modern electric vehicles use a drive-by-wire accelerator system. Instead of a mechanical cable directly controlling the drivetrain, the accelerator pedal generates an electronic signal that is interpreted by the vehicle’s control systems.

PedalBox EV works with this electronic accelerator signal. It does not rewrite the vehicle’s battery management software or increase the factory maximum output of the electric motor.

Instead, it changes the way accelerator input is translated into the vehicle’s response, allowing the driver to choose between smoother, more progressive or more immediate accelerator characteristics.

PedalBox EV uses high-speed digital signal processing (DSP) technology to process the accelerator signal quickly and accurately.
