1st Apr 14 I have had my Mercedes C180 from new and always felt the 1.6 turbo engine to be quite underwhelming especially when mated with the automatic gearbox. The engine has never lived up to my expectations or the manufacturers claims on economy. We all know that manufacturers figures are rarely achievable in the real world but my Mercedes seemed particularly poor regularly achieving below 30mpg (28.9mpg calculated after a recent weekend away that included a decent motorway run each way) under mixed conditions compared to the claimed 47.9mpg. I had also grown to loathe the way it drove with the engine and box seeming to hate each other, which I have always blamed on poor software for the gearbox. Since fitting your tuning system to my car it has been a revelation! The engine and gearbox now seem so much more in tune with each other (I wonder if the gearbox software is designed to work with a more powerful model?) making the car much more comfortable to drive both around town and on the open road. The extra oomph makes a world of difference and certainly feels like more than your claimed figures. Most importantly, for me, is that the blueefficiency is now actually starting to become more efficient averaging 33.9mpg across the first tank (calculated, none of this believing what the screen tells you rubbish) which includes a little too much lead foot time enjoying the new found power. I’m certain that if trying to drive frugally I could improve that even further simply because the gearbox is no longer hunting around the gears or constantly downshifting every time I accelerate on the motorway.
